Living a life with wood is the way Brian Barton lives each day.

The Katikati man was keen to share his love of wood turning and has built a dedicated facility to pass the love on to those who share an interest in being creative.

The shed on Katikati’s main road is large enough to store wood turning and cutting-machines, a showroom of hand- turned, sanded and polished wood and a storage area for the rawmaterial to be stored.

The showroom features different kinds of wood, all turned into useful day- today items from bowls to ornaments to free standing pieces of driftwood crafted to perfection.

A group of dedicated woodturners and enthusiasts recently visited the formal opening of the new facility and were given a tour and introduction to the wood crafting machines with a hands- on tutorial spitting fine wood cuttings into the air.

Mr Barton had spent years honing his craft with the input from other experienced wood turners.

“There is a community of people interested in the craft. Young ones too are getting interested in creating small wood projects with scroll saws.”

The new wood turning shed is purpose- built to accommodate class teaching and Brian is keen to see the love of wood passed on to other enthusiasts, young and old.

“I find wood in the woodpile for the winter fire. I save it and turn it into something beautiful.”

It has been a life in wood and Mr Barton was now open to share the passion at 110Main Road, Katikati.
