HOCKEY

The 1st XI Girls played Otumoetai JuniorAonMay 9. The girls took awhile to settle with new players adjusting to the pace at this level. Excellent defence by Libby Drake, Ariana Temple and Phoebe Robertson kept us in the game. Apenalty corner just before halftime saw Dakota Eade netting the ball for a 1-0 lead.

The second half at times was scrappy allowing Otumoetai the chance to dominate at times. Tessa Bradley made some explosive attacking runs down the right hand side gaining several penalty corners. After several shots at goal Alison Kindley put the ball in the back of the net. The girls won 2-0.

The 1st XI Boys took on Aquinas College and set out to try and dominate with putting pressure on the opposing ball carrier the key theme for the night. It paid off, with a fast penetration into the circle by Jake Hannah and a penalty corner within the first minute. That was well defended by Aquinas but the Katikati side struck back quickly with Shaun Coxhead scoring the first goal.

The game was free flowing and the boys used their width well to attack around the fringes with great support from defenders Pawan Kumar and Mike Gilliver who attacked from deep giving the strikers great options.

The final score of 7-0 was well deserved with Coxhead getting his hat-trick, along with William Besley, Ethan Fraser, Ben Douglas and Beau Moka all getting on the score-board.
