children in schools at Pahoia, Katikati, Waihi, Waihi Beach and Waikino.

We have trained volunteers work with small groups of a similar age, helping young people aged 6-18 deal with change, loss and grief. Feedback from the children, their parents and teachers shows how much they value the support.

This term there have been five programmes running and the demand has been particularly strong. More sessions will be offered during the year. Inquiries for Katikati-Pahoia should go to the co-ordinator, Lesley Jenks, on 022 043 4060. For Waihi-Waihi Beach phone Carole Parker on 022 083 5478. Thanks again Katikati for your wonderful support! LISSIE BOULTON, KAY STILL, LESLEYBOARD

Recently my husband Ken has spent time in the Waipuna Hospice.

The care and attention given to us both from the nurses and doctors is absolutely marvellous.

Late last year Ken’s oncologist put us in the care of the Hospice. From that time we have had regular, two a week phone calls, visits and necessary things we have needed at a moments notice. If we have any concerns, they are a phone call away.

Ken is home again now and the nurses keep in touch all the time. The guidance and support never stops, they are all angels.

What did people do when there was no Hospice, I often wonder. It is so much easier being under their umbrella. JULIABLACKLER
