NETBALL

The Senior Anetball team had a tough but brilliant game Friday night against Papamoa Senior Acoming away with a win 38-30. Outstanding work from goal shoot, Georgia Lemon shooting at 100 percent for one of the quarters. Caitlin Lemon and Roelien Du Plessis dominated the defensive circle in the first half making it difficult for the Papamoa attack to score. Overall the Senior Ateam has gone through grading winning all games, and are looking promising for the season.

RUGBY

KKC 1st XV travelled to Mount College to play Mount Maunganui College (MMC) 1st XV in fine but windy conditions. The game started with a rousing haka challenge laid down by MMCand accepted and responded to by KKC, which was very exciting for the spectators. The game got underway and it was apparent it was going to be a feast of running rugbywith both sets of backs getting quick ball and passing it through the hands.

It took 10 minutes before the first try was scored by Sositini Tautuaa, put away by Lesen Huiarangi into the corner. Unfortunately that was the end of the game for Tautuaa as he broke his collarbone in the tackle.

MMCthen had a sustained period of attack with their No 11 winger looking dangerous out wide. Aturnover and some strong play from the KKC forward pack led to a try to Tomasi Vakasiuola. The tries started to come fast with tries to Ryan Crapp and Josh McClean after some great interplay between forwards and backs, the handling from Filipe Vakasiuola was particularly outstanding. Good vision from Huiarangi saw him send awiper kick into the far corner, which was collected by Sione Kivalu and dotted down to make it 27-0.

Just before half time Mount scored a nice try and converted it, then ran in another in the opening of the second half. KKC came back with tries in the second half to Huiarangi, another nice kick to Kivalu this time from Tesimoni Uilou gave him his second and winger Joe Sanele also getting in on the action gave the final score 44-12. An outstanding game played in exceptional spirits leaving the crowd and the referee very happy.

FOOTBALL

KKC Girls 1st XI took on Papamoa in less than ideal conditions. Papamoa College came out very strong and only a strong performance from goalkeeper Gabe Topp kept KKC in the game. Papamoa peppered the 18 yrd box constantly. The pressure paid off when they were awarded a penalty which they converted. KKC kept their heads up and made some good breaks into their half but weren't able to finish. Then the hardworking Heidi Duckworth used her pace running on to a ball from out wide and scored the equaliser.

The 2nd half was a lot better but PC were still quicker to the loose ball as they attacked for the next 20 minutes but thanks to Topp's outstanding saves KKC kept a clean sheet. The final periodwas back n forth with neither side able to convert.

Final score 1-1. P.O.D was Gabe Topp.

Katikati U19 Premier Boys hosted Tauranga Boys' College Reserves on Saturday. It was a great morning for football, but not a great morning for the Katikati team— letting the game slip between their fingers with the very last kick of the game. TBC started the stronger of the two teams to go 1-0 up. Katikati controlled much of the game after going behind and were rewardedwith a goal after Anthony Jones smashed the ball home with 15 minutes to go.

But it was not to be, with a scrappy winner from a corner dribbling into Katikati's net in the lastminute of play. The referee's whistle sounding immediately after the goal was scored.

Man of the match for Katikati was Simon van Timmeren, who was resolute in defence.

HOCKEY

Katikati Girls 1st X1 played a very strong Bethlehem College 1st X1 on Wednesday night. The game plan set down by coach Sandy Kindley was to play a defensive pattern, taking control when they could, utilising their width and linking through the midfield. The first half was tough as they struggled to put the strategy into practise and as a consequence found themselves down 0-5 at half time. Second half improvements were made across the turf with more support and executionwith the game plan only allowing 2 goals in. Final result 0-7. Player of the day was Dakota Eade with excellent work rate in midfield. Gemma Donaldson also impressed, having the fitness to move up on attack and get back to defend.

The Boys 1st XI also played BC 1st XI Boys who are in development mode around a young team. Katikatiwent out on the attack but were thwarted by good defense and an outstanding performance by the BC goalkeeper Rory McGillivray. With only 3 minutes left in the half Shaun Coxhead converted a PCwith a nice drag flick. The team went back out after halftime determined to find the finishing touches and another goal from Coxhead sent them on theirway. Jake Hannah found his touch and scored two beautiful strikes, one from an acute angle on the near post and positive running and effort from striker Joeb Ibbotson gave him the final goal in the closing stages to take it to 5-0. Another fantastic effort from the defence team with Mac Willacy and Ethan Fraser driving it forward from the back.

BASKETBALL

Wins to both teams this week was a great outcome with the boys beating Bethlehem College Aand the girls taking on Bethlehem College B team and winning 62-10. Massive improvements to both teams as they are training well and working hard.
