By­law meet­ing

We at­tended the “have your say” meet­ing in Katikati on May 26 re­gard­ing the pro­posed changes in the by­law of the re­serves. This meet­ing was fo­cused on ban­ning horse rid­ing al­to­gether from Tuapiro beach. In­stead of lis­ten­ing to the in­put of the peo­ple present, the rep­re­sen­ta­tive of the WBOPDC was only in­ter­ested in putting for­ward the coun­cil’s point of view. The out­come of this is­sue is as per usual a fore­gone con­clu­sion, coun­cil has al­ready made up its mind of ban­ning horse rid­ing on Tuapiro and these meet­ings are only held to give an im­pres­sion to the peo­ple that they have a say, it’s fake democ­racy. It’s quite ob­vi­ous coun­cil doesn’t re­ally rep­re­sent prop­erly the ratepay­ers that
