Swans an issue

Katikati Advertiser - - News -

I am intrigued at the possible council decision to halt horses using Tuapiro Point because of pollution by horse droppings and damage to the kaimoana beds.

Having lived on Tuapiro Rd for a number of years, using the Point almost daily for walks, I never saw anyone collecting seafood, but I did see thousands of swans defecating into the water and all over the mudflats. Toxins more often than not present in seafood has meant no collecting is possible anyway!

What steps have been taken to deal with people camping within the pines and driving cars at speed on the mudflats?

I see the presence of this huge number of swans, not even a native species, as amuch more pressing issue than a dozen or so well behaved horses. JHASELL Tuapiro
