New event coordinator starts at Katch Katikati

Katikati Advertiser - - On The Job -

Katch Katikati has been bursting at the seams for the past six months with the increased workload that the team just cannot seem to say no to.

Town promotions manager Jacqui Knight says with wanting to create an active and creative community, to support and promote the area, plus take the lead role on a number of community projects, they are now excited to have a third person join the team.

New events coordinator NickyAustin has joined the Katch Katikati team and says she is excited to be working with Jacqui and Kristin Crockett.

Having visited her parents and other family members in Katikati for over 15 years Nicky says she had fallen in love with the area.

“It had become a bit of a dream ofmine to move up here to be closer to my family and become part of this great community.

“I had long missed the wonderful connections that come with living in a small town, so I amover the moon to be working in a job that helps to strengthen those community bonds.”

Five weeks ago, Nicky, husband Robwho is a builder, their two children Natalia, 7, and Frank, 6, moved up from Christchurch to start their new life in the Bay of Plenty. Nicky says her life in Christchurch revolved around the rowing and sporting community where she has coached and managedmany organisations.

“We also lived right on the edge of the Christchurch East residential red-zone, so the earthquakes and subsequent recovery has impacted our lives in a big way.”

In 1998 Nicky was selected into theNZ Rowing teamwhich started her 10-year career as a professional rower and took her to theAthens and Beijing Olympic games. That experience has led to her work as an OlympicAmbassador which involves visiting primary schools a couple of times a month, talking to children about the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect and inspiring them to live those values in all aspects of their lives.

“I’m excited to start visiting primary schools in the Bay of Plenty region.”

“We are verymuch looking forward to moving onto our lifestyle block and making the most of this beautiful region— the sun, the food, the bush, the beaches and our family now and into the future.”

Katch Katikati said it had a fantastic response when they advertised the position and were overwhelmed with the interest and calibre of the candidates. Jacqui says Nicky has slipped wonderfully into the role and will bring a fresh revitalised look and feel to many of the events it had been doing.

“We are excited about the new events on the horizon. As they say— watch this space!”
