The forecast for this weekend is sun, fun and adventure for the BaseUp Omokoroa Coastal Challenge that kicks off at the sports grounds in Western Ave in Omokoroa on Sunday.

The event offers distances to suit all ages and abilities including the 2km kids’ dash,

5km and 10km walk, plus 5, 10 and 15km run options.

The first, second and third female and male placegette­rs of each running distance event

(5km, 10km 15km) will receive generous cash prizes. In addition, to reward younger athletes for tackling the 5km run distance, there will first, second and third cash prizes for placegette­rs in a special 13 years and under age group.

It’s not too late to enter and the entry fee is $30 for adults, $15 for youth and $10 for kids, with all proceeds donated to the Tauranga Community Foodbank and Waihi Beach Surf Life Saving Club.

“With a tonne of spot prizes up for grabs including a threeday self-guided trip down the Whanganui River and a Tongariro Crossing package for two, there will be lots of lucky people,” says co-organiser Simone Rose.

Also on offer on the day is coffee and food, plus loads of fun activities such as bouncy castle, sumo suits, face painting and more.

Entrants will be able to collect their race bib and timing chips (and for the first 400 entrants, also a goody bag) between 2pm5pm this Saturday, November 10 at the Omokoroa sports grounds. Family or friends can collect on behalf of entrants. There will be a brief registrati­on on event day from 7.30am-8am only for those who absolutely can’t make it on Saturday.
