Good start for races

-

The day started with drizzle and no wind, but by start time a light breeze had built from the east and Katikati Boating Club racing was under way.

And by sheer coincidence the start gun was fired at

11.11am, on the 11th day of the

11th month exactly 100 years after WWI ended.

Paul Roberts showed pure class in taking out the catamaran class in his old boat which he had borrowed for the day. In the trailer sailer class, it was an exciting tussle between Basil Cook and Don Wallis in which the lead changed several times. Don sneaked home a mere five seconds in front. The star award of the day went to Sue Cook, who beat the entire monohull fleet home in a Micron — the smallest yacht in the fleet. Sue handled the light conditions perfectly. The junior fleet was led home by Brecon Cameron, with Ben Tanner a close second and Kylie Dobbs, third. It was a credit to the handicap system that seven yachts from five different classes finished within two minutes of each other on handicap, including the juniors.

The next race day is this Sundayat 10am.
