Work is underway on the final stage of the restoration of historic Athenree Homestead. This final part is five rooms which will restore the original size of the house. Homestead Trust spokesperson Val New said it is only the exterior work — the interior will have to wait until they have more funds available. She said TECT has matched them dollar for dollar to build the extension — $150,000 from them and $150,000 from the Trust. The annual Christmas Fair and Market is on at the homestead on Sunday.

Katikati township got pelted with hailstones on Tuesday. The storm passed quickly but left hailstones strewn on the ground, on car bonnets and roofs. An awning at Learning Adventures Katikati facility in mainstreet was filling up fast with icy hailstones.

No sooner was the Katikati Advertiser Christmas tree up and decorated than people started arriving with gifts. Asher Taylor, 10 and Gina Taylor, 12 were among the first to place gifts under the tree for the community appeal at the office on Tuesday.
