Online Cenotaph

He Pou Aroha Community Cenotaph is at the Western Bay Museum for a limited time to help local people discover and share stories of those who served. The Online Cenotaph, organised through the Auckland War Memorial Museum, holds the records of men and women from New Zealand and the Pacific who served in international conflicts from the 19th century to today. The centotaph is about helping future generations remember. Anyone can contribute to Online Cenotaph by digitising taonga, documents, letters, medals, photographs and war memorabilia. Or find their own connection and lay a digital poppy and leave a personal message. The Online Cenotaph will be at the museum until February.

Christmas lights display

Katikati’s Ken Allen loves to share the spirit of Christmas, especially with children. Each year his Christmas light display in Binnie Rd is getting bigger and better. This is the fourth year the pensioner and neighbour Alice Gumbley have decorated their units with colourful lights and decorations. Each year they invite children from the Katikati Playcentre to visit and give them a wee gift. The light display will be turned on this Saturday, December 1. He is also co-organising a Christmas Charity Concert for Ocean Stephen on December 9 over the road from his RSA unit, on the front lawn at Lexham Park.

Where’s Barry finishes for year

Our Barry is taking a break for the festive season. That means our Where’s Barry competition has finished for this year, so there is no Barry hidden in our pages this week. The thanks our readers for their continued support with the competition. We know there have been some winners along the way, getting a nice surprise when checking Lotto tickets at the Video Ezy and Lotto shop. Watch out for Barry starting again in February 2019.
