Action needed
It’s a desperate situation, we need to think of a desperate solution.
Many Athenree residents are switching to shopping in Waihi where it is safer to get out of the car, especially with little children, and with summer traffic hold-ups looming when traffic sometimes backs up to Tuapiro Rd we need an alternative route.
Our suggestion to reduce the problem and halve the amount of traffic through Katikati town is to keep the main road as a two lane thoroughfare north, and southbound traffic follows an alternative route through Carisbrooke and Middlebrook streets, as used when we have the Christmas parade in town.
We realise this is not a perfect solution for everyone, as some upgrading will be involved, and making the route a through road will inconvenience Carisbrooke Rd homeowners. Perhaps we could try a trial run over the summer when the roads are clogged.
If we do nothing — nothing will happen. What do you think? ATHENREE ACTION GROUP Athenree
