Parade plans in place

Twenty-six floats have registered so far for the 2018 Lions Christmas Parade on Saturday, which is traditiona­lly a fun, family afternoon when town meets country.

The parade starts at 3pm. Participan­ts need to assemble at Earl Drive from 2pm for judging. The convoy leaves at 3pm heading north along the mainstreet to loop back and finish at Moore Park. Children and mobility scooter owners are reminded to bring their decorated bikes, scooters and wheels to the log jam at Diggelmann Park at 2.30pm to enter the competitio­n.

Jolly old Santa will be the first to arrive at the park where, held in conjunctio­n with Katch Katikati and the Katikati Rugby and Sports Club, will have entertainm­ent, rides, games, quick fire raffles, food and drinks. Santa will be available for a chat and photo opportunit­ies.

Katch Katikati’s Nicky Austin has a great line-up of entertainm­ent planned with the Katikati Concert Band, led by Wendy Fleming first up. MC Don Wallis will again announce the exciting and talented acts performing on stage. These include LA Thompson, Ian Gilmour, Brianna Rackham. Long Journey Youth group, Sophie Hill, John Sutherland and Paris Nelson.

The bubble machine will be operating again to keep children entertaine­d and Mr Whippy will be there.

The winners of the float parade will be announced by Lions president Alan Hay at around 4.30pm. It’s not too late to register a float for Saturday’s parade, contact
