Friends stage art exhibition

-

The Feathers, Flowers and Fabulous places exhibition combines an eclectic collection of art by Carol Fippard and Carolyn Watts.

These two friends met through the Katikati Art Group and have been painting in the Katikati Art Gallery for over six years.

Both artists have a keen eye for painting in detail, with some pieces taking months to complete.

Carol has always enjoyed painting. She began her journey with folk art. The brush work and techniques learned in this art form still play a part in her art work today. Her preferred medium is acrylic. Carol excels in capturing character in the faces of native birds as well as the changing light and reflection of the coastline.

Carol recently won viewers’ choice with her entry Katie in the Suffragette Art Challenge. Carol has sold her art to people overseas and in New Zealand.

Carolyn has been painting in oils for more than a decade, having taken private classes with well-known Devonport artist Robert Campion. Carolyn is drawn to the beauty of flowers but is also inspired by the unique countryside and seaside. She loves the way oil paints create depth through many layers of colour and glaze.

Some of Carolyn’s New Zealand-specific pieces are held in collections throughout Australia as well as in Singapore and the United Kingdom.

The complimentary mix of subject and alternative medium of acrylic and oil, combined with camaraderie and fused together by a love for art is the fabric behind their Feathers, Flowers and Fabulous places exhibition, which opens on December 3.
