Inspiring film night

Be inspired, spread the word and make a difference.

Check out ReThink Project’s Be The Change Film Night in Katikati. This month the ReThink Project is building on last month’s theme of Community Connections to feature a Bollywood-style movie to be held at St Paul’s Church, 2 Mulgan Street, Katikati next Thursday.

What does a Bollywood movie have to do with Be the Change? The film is an inspiring story of how culture, religion and politics can disconnect us, yet these disconnects can be healed by values of love, the importance of family and a sense of belonging.

It is based on the true story of a young mute girl who gets separated from her mother while travelling from Pakistan to India. The cinematography, vibrant colour and music are all that you would expect from Bollywood, but with profound uplifting messages that will warm your heart. Although the film is in in Hindi, the story is so gripping that for all non-Hindi speaking people, the English subtitles become easy the more immersed you become in the adventure.

To add to the cultural understanding underpinning Bollywood, a panel of speakers, including the Welcoming Communities Coordinator from Western Bay of Plenty District Council, plus others from the Katikati community will be there to answer questions and give some further insight into what it is to be Indian in New Zealand.

Be the Change Film Night, December 6 at St Paul’s Church in Mulgan St. Doors open 6.30pm, film starts 6.45pm. Evening closes 9pm with a cup of tea. Suggested koha (donation) of $5 at the door goes towards future film nights. This is a notfor-profit event. For more information visit the ‘ReThink Project’ Facebook page.
