Veterans — The Fairview Nine Hole Men’s Veterans invited the nine hole and 18 hole ladies to join with the men last Thursday, for the last drawn mixed pairs for the year 2018. With 24 players keen to get started as the air was warm and no wind. The competitio­n, Canadian Fours played in pairs and in two divisions, division one was mixed pairs and division two was men’s pairs. each player had to have three drives off the tee and then the best ball was chosen and they played alternativ­e shots until the ball was holed. the winners of division one were Paul Blackford and Gayle Nairn with nett score of 29.5, followed by Bob Willetts and Sandie Knowlson with 30 nett and third place was Stewart Couper and Monique Amor with 33 nett points. Division two winners were Laurie Harris and Bruce Warden with 31.5 nett score, second were Barry Winning and Ross Chambers with a 34.5 nett score, third place on countback on putts were Peter Wilson and Jim Blackburn.

The first round of the Darling trophy, competed for once a year, (combined scores of two net rounds, one round played on the back nine holes and one round on the front nine holes) was played on November 1 on the front nine holes with 18 players. The winners on the day were Jim Blackburn with an outstandin­g nett score of 25 points, Second place was Peter Wilson with 30 points and Bob Willetts with 33 nett points.

The second round was held on November 22, competing on the back nine holes. The winners of the standard haggle for the day were Clive Lock and Ross Chambers both with 31 nett points, third was Laurie Harris with 32 points followed by Keith Hands with 33 points. The hidden hole was won by Ross Chambers. The silver plate (the Darling trophy) was won with a combined score over the two rounds. The winner was Jim Blackburn with 59 nett points, runners-up were Clive Lock and Peter Wilson both with 66 nett points and fourth place was Keith Hands with 67 nett points.

Fairview Ladies — The 9-hole ladies played a combined Nett and Putting Round on November 27 on a warm morning, despite heavy showers coming in before they had all finished. Results: Division One Nett — 1st Sandie Knowlson 29, 2nd= Mary Furness, Anne Howard, Cath Edwards and Janet Horn all on

18 Hole — Thunder and lighting was the order of the day for the Fairview Ladies 18 hole summer cup stableford competitio­n. The summer cup is played during a specific few weeks in summer. Scores are kept for the best four game results out of six — so the more you play the better chance of having those great scores. Results: Cathy Munro 39, Joan Irwin 38, Betty Silson 37, Gayle Nairn 36, Lyn Cuming 35, Sandra Wheeler 32.
