Avocado dishes prove popular

-

How many have been out sampling the delish dishes in Katikati’s Best Smashed Avocado Competition?

There are six divine dishes that our local masterchefs have created for the contest. Organiser Nicky Austin from Katch Katikati did the rounds visiting each of the eateries last week to see how they’re going, take selfies and top up their voting forms. All of the establishments reported that their dishes were very popular.

“Lots of people are interested in trying the dishes and comparing them against others that they’ve tried. One chef even said she’s been dreaming of avocados at night because she’s been making so many of the dishes!”

Julia from Central Park Bar and Kitchen said the response to their dish, The Haiku Pathway, has been brilliant.

“The customers have found the dish to be stunning, finding the avocado to be the absolute hero of the dish and just loving the idea. It is such an out of the box idea that Daniel came up with and have taken the customers aback.

“We have had customers by tables make special bookings after seeing the article in the Katikati Advertiser, even coming in for seconds — it’s been fantastic.”

The Lighthouse Cafe owner Leanne Christie has also had a great response from customers so far to their dish, Avocado Smash.

“We have had many overseas travellers along with regular customers all supporting the competition and trying our dish, which seems to be a hit, even some requests for it to remain on our menu.”

Nicky even got to try a couple of the dishes and is looking forward to ordering the rest of them in the lead up to Christmas.

Don’t forget when you order the dish, before you leave the establishment, place your vote. Diners have until January 6 to sample the dishes and vote.

The winner will be announced at the 2019 Avocado Food and Wine Festival at the Uretara Domain on January 12, so make sure you get your festival tickets from the Arts Junction.
