Reflect on your year
Only a couple days until Christmas now. This means plenty of good food, quality family time and of course a few days at the beach.
Christmas and New Year can be a good time to take a breath and reflect on the past six months on farm.
Calving and mating seem to fly by without any time to stop and take a breath, so now is a good time to reflect on the last six months.
A good way to think about the year in hindsight is “Keep, stop, start”.
Keep: What are the things that went well and you are going to keep on doing?
Stop: What are a few things that didn’t go to plan? Are you going to continue with these practices?
Start: What areas of the farm business do you have an opportunity to improve and start doing a few things differently?
With a couple of weeks to spare it’s important that everyone on farm knows what days that they have off over Christmas in advance, so they can plan for the holiday period.
Ensure that you’re meeting any legal requirements as an employer over the holiday season, and if you are getting confused consider talking to a pay roll company or give the people team at DairyNZ a call on 0800 4 324 7969, and they can direct you to someone who can help.
Have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
