Funky troop open concert series

The countdown is onwith just days to go until we celebrate New Year.

Heading our way to launch the 2019 Twilight Concert season are impressive entertaine­rs Hipstamati­cs, who will have you rocking in your deckchairs and up dancing.

Local talent Bree Rosewill open for the Hipstamati­cs in the first summer concert set in the picturesqu­e Haiku Reserve. The concerts are ‘must do’ events over the summer holidays.

Hipstamati­cs, comprising three lead vocals and a horn section, the band will get the party started. The colourful Hipstamati­cs take iconic well known tunes and reinterpre­t them into an authentic vintage soul/funk style. Elements of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and James Brown are evident in their sound.

Dillon “the Rooster” Riesterer is a jack-of-all-trades musician and sings lead, plays keys and percussion with the band.

Victor Hawkins “Sulfa” was born singing. Naturally introverte­d, he was encouraged to sing publicly at age 15, igniting his love of the art.

Molee Lauititi, ‘Princess Molee’, is the soul diva. Molee is a natural and brings awarm onstage X factor to Hipstamati­cs.

Liam Pram plays guitar while studying Fine Art at Elam in Auckland. An all-round creative, Liam brings his unique style to the band.

Hannah Elise is the resident ‘Female Bootsy’ on bass guitar. Hannah first played guitar at age 6 and made the transition to bass at 15, self-taught while being home schooled. After various bands she now resides with the Hipstamati­cs.

Zimbabwean born Thabani Gapara, the saxophonis­t, was introduced to the saxophone at age 17 and has been playing since. He has had the pleasure to play as amember in several musical projects in Zimbabwe, South Africa, and now New Zealand. His passion for collaborat­ion has seen him work with several NZ artists.

Cam Sangster, on drums, studied at Massey University achieving a Bachelor of Music Degree, majoring in Jazz Performanc­e and graduating in 2012. He has also studied compositio­n, arranging, theory, improvisat­ion and Latin styles. The moment Cam touched a drum kit at age 10 he knew he had found his passion in life.

Jerome Drumm is by day a mild-mannered insurance salesman, by night the party boy of the band. He plays amean horn as well as the trumpet.

Matt Lorden has played piano for 20 years. Classicall­y trained, he was introduced to jazz through the Northcote College Big Band where he was mentored by Phil Broadhurst.

Jonathan Brittain first picked up trombone at age 11 and hasn’t looked back. Originally from Perth, Western Australia, he has recently moved toNew Zealand seeking musical adventure. An experience­d performer, Jonathan has shared the stage with FredWesley, StanWalker, House of Shem and many others.

Bring a deckchair and your favourite picnic snacks to the Haiku Reserve for some great family entertainm­ent. Chrome Cafewill have handy concert picnic bags again.
