Live music festival at Lettuce Inn

Mokonui, with help from Creative Communitie­s Tauranga, Liberty Growers, and The Station, is pleased to present Live Music at the Lettuce Inn No 6 in Katikati on January 26.

The festival is being held in idyllic grounds in an avocado grove on Liberty Growers’ hydroponic lettuce and herb farm at 33 Sedgemoor Lane.

The January event will showcase local music performers from Katikati, Waihi and Tauranga, as well as acts from Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin. The festival will also feature installati­ons from visual artists Deano Sheriffis (Wellington), Katja Pot (Tauranga), Jess Covell (Katikati) and Chris Miller (Katikati), as well as live painting form Auckland artist Dune Terrace. Art will also be on display from Katikati College art students.

Katikati College’s Bree Rose joins the lineup performing a range of covers, along with Otumoetai Colleges’ percussion group, Bangers and Smash who play attention grabbing arrangemen­ts of popular songs and alternativ­e rock band Birdhouse, also from O¯ tumoetai College.

Dam Dans, Wellington eclectic collaborat­ive, features Brooke Singer (French for Rabbits), Penelope Esplin (Grawlixes), Jacqui Nyman (Fraser Ross and the 04s and Sulco d’Alma) and Olivia Campion (Girl boss and Yumi Zouma).

They draw together inspiratio­n from dream folk, indie pop, and jazz with their sound often drawing comparison­s to Warpaint. Dunedin’s five-piece Julian Temple Band employ a wide variety of contempora­ry musical styles including blues, jazz and rock and roll and Grown Downz, siblings Joel and Ellie are Tauranga’s two piece feel good punk ‘n’ roll band influenced by surf/ skate culture and their pals. The Something Quartet complete the lineup and are the brainchild of Chris (Bugs) Miller delivering his songs about every day things. Spinning banging tracks between acts, will be Auckland’s DJ Kitten Witch.

Whether you choose to sit back and enjoy or get your dance on, there is plenty of space. It’s a family friendly event with family passes setting you back $40. Adult pre-sale tickets will be $20 plus booking fee through eventbrite.co.nz, and there will be limited door sales for $25. Camping is also available by prior arrangemen­t.

Wood fired pizzas will be available to buy from BreadNZ but people are welcome to bring along extra snacks or their own picnic.
