Library happy to be back at work

-

The Omokoroa Library and Service Centre team is happy to be back at work under alert level 2 and helping its customers.

Sue Halsey, Western Bay of Plenty Council’s team leader Libraries Western, says since reopening under Covid-19 alert level 2 conditions on May 14, the Omokoroa Library has seen a steady stream of loyal customers return to browse the library and undertake council business, even though under somewhat different conditions than usual.

She says as one of four Western Bay of Plenty Libraries’ branches in the district, the team had a comprehensive plan in place prior to opening in alert level 2 to ensure the safety of customers and staff.

This has included quarantining returned books, stepping up the cleaning regime and cancelling the regular library programming, such as Scrabble Club, Knit and Natter and Book a Tech sessions for adults, and class visits and Brick Club for the children.

“However, customers have been more than happy to accept the temporary changes, along with providing their details for contact tracing and abiding by physical distancing rules.

“The team are happy to be back at work in this ‘new normal’ and helping their regular customers.

“They have worked hard to process and fill the shelves with the huge volume of books that have been returned since lockdown and are looking forward to further adapting their operations as restrictions are lifted.”
