Sales and Market Update

Markets continue to track well to plan. As at the end of week 19, we have delivered 20.0m TE through to consumers. This is 3.0m TE ahead of the same point in the 2019 season. 16.2m TE of the volume delivered to date is Class 1 SunGold conventional, while Green deliveries are currently around 600,000 trays ahead of the same time last season. Nearly 6m TE of all fruit groups is expected to be delivered in week 20.

Markets continue to see good pull through from consumer fruit purchasing with marketing campaigns well under way to support sales. The US continues to do well after its strong start, while markets with longer transit times are now getting underway.

The market teams are continuing to receive positive feedback on good taste and good quality from our customers while our new market websites featuring our refreshed brand identity are already generating an increase in user traffic.

Supply Update

In terms of submit, as of 15 May, 86.2m TE of SunGold conventional has been packed and 24.1m TE of Hayward conventional. SunGold is 12.7 million trays up compared to the same day last year, with Green around 0.3 million TE behind.

Organic categories are following a similar pattern, with SunGold Organic slightly ahead of last year and Green Organic slightly behind. The full report can be seen here: https://canopy. zespri.com/EN/industry/news/Pages/ Industry-Daily-Submit-Report.aspx.

Despite the challenges presented by Covid-19, shipping to date continues to be well ahead of the same point last year.

To the end of week 20, 60.0 million trays have been shipped. This is up more than 7.3 million trays on the same time last season and up 10.6 million trays on the same time in the 2018 season.

The industry is on track to load another 699 containers and three charter vessels by the end of this week. Two of these ships will load at the Ports of Gisborne and Nelson before coming to Tauranga to complete loading.

This will bring our total to 25 ships loaded out of a total of 50 ships scheduled for the season and more than 5,298 containers loaded this year to date.

Community Investment Update

Zespri is continuing to support community organisations who are helping care for those most in need as part of our ongoing response to Covid-19.

This week, members of our New Zealand External Relations team have spent time volunteering with KidsCan, a national organisation we’re supporting, to help with the distribution of food packages.

We’ve also provided kiwifruit and financial support to local food rescue and charity organisations in many of our growing regions, including Food Rescue Northland, The Daily Café in Te Puke, Nourished for Nil in the Hawke’s Bay, and Gizzy Kai Rescue in Gisborne. And globally, our support has grown to include donations to local charities in our growing regions in Italy, as well as Korea where we are supporting lowincome senior citizens, complementing the donations we’ve made in China and Japan.

In New Zealand, our kiwifruit has been very gratefully received by charities who are feeding more people in need than ever before, and struggling to do so.

The industry’s donations, from Zespri, post-harvest and growers, is making a real difference.
