There’s a new lawyer in town

-

Hello and welcome to the Ask Karin blog. My name is Karin Thomas and I am a Barrister & Solicitor operating my own incorporated law firm, Karin Thomas Lawyers Limited. Our head office is based in Waihi and I am thrilled to be opening a branch office located at Cherry Court, Katikati, next door to the ANZ Bank in Katikati. My team and I are communitybased lawyers who provide advice and assistance on a wide range of legal matters. I was admitted to the Bar in 1997 (a lifetime ago) and I have worked both as an inhouse corporate lawyer and in private practice. I moved to Waihi from Hamilton in 2018. My move to Waihi was based on a desire for a lifestyle that suited myself and my son. I love being able to have more time with my clients and deal with their legal needs for the whole of life scenarios that tend to come up for people at different stages of their life.

My career in law has been very sucessful – I am very good at what I do. I am deeply passionate about law and assisting my clients. The fundamental obligations of lawyers are upholding the rule of law, facilitating the administration of justice, acting in accordance of all fiduciary duties and duties of care owed by myself to my clients. I take these obligations seriously, so you, as a client, can feel secure that you are in good hands and will receive a service that you can trust. Legal matters can be very sensitive so a professional and pragmatic approach is essential, but also we undertand that legal matters can be hard to deal with so compassion and empathy is also what myself and my team offer.

As an extension of my commitment to law and my clients I am starting this regular, monthly ‘Ask Karin’ column in this newspaper, so that I can provide extra information about issues that affect us all or topics that are worth knowing more about. I hope that this information is beneficial to you all and I welcome your questions.
