Artistic trio’s work in spotlight in Katikati
Atrio of artists— Jose Jebb, Lyn Watts and Nigel Wilson, each amember of the Tauranga Society of Artists decided to group together to exhibit a selection of their work at the Carlton Gallery in the Arts Junction in Katikati.
The artists live in Waihi, Tauranga and Katikati and the result is adiverse and fascinating display of paintings and drawings. Working with different mediumsand featuring different techniques and subjects, each artist has created aunique experience.
Jose Jebb has experimented with watercolour formanyyears and is still captivated by the medium. She is inspired by images seen in everyday life.
“I love the ‘happy accidents’ of watercolour. I like to experiment with colour and pen. I like to paint in a social setting as well as inmystudio, Rose Cottage. Painting and drawing are pure therapy forme— art lights upmyday,” says Jose.
As a young child, Lyn Watts had a real passion for drawing and this obsession has never waned.
“My current work focuses on the humanfigure, muchof it starting out as sketches of live models which are then stylised or deconstructed,” says Lyn. “My favouritemediumis charcoal or conte and I simply adore the spring of a paint-loaded brush against large scaled canvas!”
Nigel Wilson lived inNewSouth Wales in Australia formanyyears where he enjoyed sketching outdoors.
“Iamcurrently interested in developing pastel work usually concentrating on portraiture, and striving to capture the character of the subject,” says Nigel. “Ifmywork triggerssomereaction by the viewer, somememory, or feeling, then I consider it to be successful.”
For the last four years he has been attending sessions in life drawing and portraiture at The Tauranga Society of Artists.
