Good win for Katikati over Otumoetai

Katikati’s Athenree Builders Ltd College teammet Otumoetai Cadets College premier side at the Uretara Domain at the weekend. The Katikati side, missing two players to injury and twomore away, had to rely on a fewbackup fielders for the game. Cadets captainAda­m Mannerswon­the toss and elected to bat, and early wickets to Pratik Patel and Nishi Ravji had the visitors at 9/2.

McConnochi­e’s bowling. Regular wickets restricted the Cadets side to 125 off 39 overs, Pratik Patel the pick of the bowlers again thisweekwi­th 3/8 off 8 overs. Katikati’s innings reply got off to a flying start thanks to poor bowling and big hitting from McConnochi­ewhotook 18 off the first over. SamTaylor, 28, and McConnochi­e, 42, were themain contributo­rs as Katikati reached the target in the 21st over for the loss of just four wickets. Agood win for the college lads.

Seniors

The Katikati Senior Men’sBGrade side travelled to Papamoa to take on their clubs other BGrade side at Gordon Spratt Reserve.

Katikati batted first and produced an innings of 166 runs, with Jacob

Morton, 42 and Beaven Edwards, 22 scoring the runs. RobInglis and JP Bevin taking three wickets a piece. Whatensued­was amatch that seesawed back and forth all theway through the 40overs. Papamoa looked to be safely chasingdow­nthe target at 100/4 after 21 overs. Enter leg spinner Seth Srinivarsa­n and three quick wickets later, the game turned with Papamoa nervously sitting at 125/7 after 31.4 overs.

Stefan Heuberger played a great cameo innings inmaking 31 quick runs toshow the home teamthe finish line. Edwards bowled Heuberger and then had Inglis caught by Dylan Shea atmid-on off the last ball of the 39th over. The 38th over alsosawa fewfieldin­g errors giving Papamoa an additional five runs which were to prove costly. Needing four to win off the last six balls, and Katikati needing just the last wicket. Howeverold timer Marc Rollerston flicked the first ballhe faced, off middle stumpand just over the head of the backward square fielder for four, giving Papamoa the victory.

Agreat gamethat sets the scene for a good returnmatc­h next year.
