Petition calls for ‘one law to govern all people’
Christina Humphreys and a group of concerned citizens are petitioning Government to return New Zealand to a true democracy.
The petition requests that the House of Representatives urge the Government to stop using the terms “principles of the Treaty of Waitangi” and “partnership between Ma¯ori and the Crown” and declare that New Zealand has One Sovereignty, One People and One Law.
The reason for the petition is to “demand our democratic rights and democracy back”.
“It's my belief that 85 percent majority of New Zealanders are brushed aside from their rights as citizens because Queen Victoria's 1840 Royal Charter has been ignored by successive Governments, allowing NZ to become an “Apartheid Nation”, Humphrey's states on the petition.
“The Treaty of Waitangi was created so NZ would be One People under One Flag and One Law. I demand this principle be implemented forthwith!”
As of Wednesday the online petition had 627 signatures.
A flier with information about the petition has been posted in letterboxes locally around the district. The petition closes on August 8.
