Get into pin-up spirit with Miss Athenree and also see cool cars

-

A “Miss Athenree” Pin-Up Contest will be introduced at the 2021 Classic and Vintage Car Show fundraiser on next Sunday, after being postponed in February due to a change in Covid alert levels.

Along with a convoy of shiny cars it is hoped there will be a bevy of beauties dressed in classic outfits from the 1920s-50s.

Whether you love Chevvies, Fords, hot rods, vintage or muscle cars there will be a range of cars over the years on display on the grounds at Athenree Homestead.

There will be three car show winners selected on the day. People can enter into the spirit of the day and dress in vintage style from the wardrobe at the homestead, retro or in keeping with the era of the classic cars.

The show is another Athenree Homestead event, sponsored by Henry’s Rod Shop, with all proceeds going towards the homestead

renovations and the Athenree Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Henry’s Rod Shop owner Ray Thompson and son Mark are both car enthusiasts and are keen to help raise money for the historic house.

Ray is excited about the event

which has now become an annual one. Last year it raised almost $3000 with 40 cars on site. Mark says he is excited to be involved in it from the aspect that it’s good for the local community.

“We had a really good turnout out

last year so we’re trying something different with the Miss Athenree, whether you’re 18 or 98,” Mark says.

“Whether you dress up or bring a car, or just come and take a look, there is something for everyone.”

People can register on the day for the Miss Athenree Pin-Up competition. The Athenree Station Cafe will be open and there will be a barbecue.
