Telling our history in a night of song
Katikati Folk Club presents Unsung Heroes. Guitarist and vocalist Chris Priestley has written some great songs about various figures from New Zealand history and will be performing them with a fabulous band – Cameron Bennett, multiaward-winning TVNZ news reporter/ presenter, current affairs reporter (dobro and vocals), Nigel Gavin (guitar), Sonia Wilson (harmonies) and actor, Peter Elliot (readings, poems . . . and a hint of drama).
The songs are all original and about characters and events from New Zealand history, including some from our neck of the woods.
A slideshow will accompany each song and Elliot will read an appropriate newspaper article – and the occasional poem – to introduce each song.
Truly a concert not to be missed. “The most entertaining New Zealand history lesson you’re likely to encounter”, says Marty Duda.
A bar will be available before the concert. Coffee, tea, cheese and biscuits will be served at halftime.
