Fairview Golf Club keeping players busy
The Fairview Golf Club men’s 18-hole group have had a busy start to the year. Their Ambrose tournament in February attracted an entry of 34 teams to enjoy a great day of golf, and raising a considerable sum for the Leukemia Blood Cancer charity. The winning team of Bob Perkins, Pat and Mick Dean Freeman together with Andrew Boylan will enjoy a fabulous winning prize with a trip to play at the world famous Kauri Cliffs resort.
A huge thank you to all of sponsors, volunteers and players ensuring a truly great day was enjoyed by all.
There have been two “Black Tee Challenge” days this year both of which attracted large entries. The course set up provided a challenging test, both days proving a great success with the players. Ian Howells shot the lowest gross in the initial challenge with Colin Heyes prevailing in the second challenge.
So far this year two of our members have managed the “ultimate” golf shot. Congratulations to Tiki Bluegum and Owen Howl for their Hole in Ones and a special mention for their level of commitment in the 19th afterwards.
Competitions are now well under way with some already completed:
■ Summer Match play League trophy was won by Bruce Auld, with Allan Thomson, runner-up.
■ Finals of the Intermediate, Junior and Presidents Matchplay Championships, winners were: Intermediate — Allan Thomson, runner up Dan Roberts; Junior — Arthur Gilmour, runner-up David Livingstone. Presidents — Keith Hands, runner-up Harry McCord.

OMOKOROA
Last Tuesday evening Omokoroa Beach Indoor Bowling Club hosted members of neighbouring club Bethlehem. The turnout was good and players from each club were mixed randomly into teams. Competition
was tight with the final winners (who were 1 down on the penultimate end) sitting 3 up before the final bowl was played. Try all he might, skip Syd Wright (Bethlehem) was unable to salvage the end. Results: Winners: David Warth, Maxine Humphrey and skip, Gerry Hoogwerf . Lucky last: John Gilmore, Aileen Vlug, Ross Hamlin and skip Don Neill. Celebrations/commiserations were shared over supper.
