Katikati’s senior teams record 3 wins from 3

Katikati Cricket Club’s B Grade men’s team recorded a first-up win in Round 1 of the postChristmas Consolation Championship facing the Mount Maunganui Inanga team at the KCG grass wicket.

The Inanga won the toss and elected to bat first on a damp wicket due to a brief early morning shower.

Katikati bowlers took two wickets in the fifth and sixth overs and then, in the 11th to 14th, Inanga collapsed to lose four further wickets to be 62/6.

Katikati well in control applied the pressure while sharing the bowling duties around — seven different bowlers taking wickets to have Mount Inanga all out for 120 in only 28 overs.

Matt Ewens rewarded with a good couple of overs to take 1/9 clean bowling the No 11, Sam Vague, the best of the Mount batsmen making 21.

Katikati’s batting reply was fast and effective, Colin Chase falling for 30 with the score at 58.A couple of quick wickets bought Avi Sood and Max Morton to the crease and they took the score to 90 in the 15th over with the team closing out the four-wicket win in the 24th over.

Good performances by newcomers Rory Mackay and Avi Sood capped off a good team effort.

Reserves win with seven wickets to spare

Katikati Hume Pack-N-Cool Reserves had a bye on Saturday but played a catch-up game against Aquinas College on the Sunday at the KCG.

The Reserves side never really let the Aquinas 1st team get going and bundled them out for 103 in just 25.3 overs.

Only Northern Districts rep Spencer Wills, helping out the College side, offered resistance with 22.

Katikati’s bowler of the day was Khushwaran Joshi who

continued his love affair with the Katikati ground taking 5/16 with his leg spin, and he was well supported by the experienced old hand of Matt Earl with 3/27.

Katikati went hard in their reply with Earl smacking 54 off 40 balls and Nishi Ravji closing the innings out with a solid 37 off 38 balls.

Katikati reached the target in 18.3 overs with seven wickets in hand.

This pretty much secures Katikati’s place in the last round of six for the championship.
