Katikati club going strong — 142 years on

- — Fiona Nankivell

The legacy of Katikati rugby began in 1880 and in that time Katikati Rugby Sport Club has been well represented with many great sportsmen.

The 140th anniversary, hosted in 2021 (due to Covid19 restrictions in 2020) was a time of reflection, stories and memories of those who the light shone on.

Now the light is shining on the players and people who are part of the community of Katikati Rugby Sport Club in 2022. To continue the line, or the whakapapa of this club — we call on players and rugby enthusiasts to participate.

The Stags are, at this stage, a small and committed group who are developing skills and a mindset under head coach Marcus Howie who is assisted by Kim Nankivell which will be

a great platform for a year of mental and physical growth and flowing rugby.

Importantly, we need a bigger pool of players so if you or someone you know has an interest in rugby that goes beyond being a spectator then please come along to a training night, Tuesdays and Thursdays at Moore Park from 6pm.

With a core group of loyal sponsors and the introduction of new sponsors in 2022 we are looking forward to sponsor and family days when we are hosting a home game.

There will be five home games this year, so keep an eye on the paper, Facebook and the large sign at Moore Park for details.

Our juniors are thriving in the energetic and fun environment of Rippa Rugby. We currently have teams in the under-six-year and underseven-year brackets, but we welcome all children up to year six to join us on Thursdays from 4.30pm.
