Stepping out in our coastal backyard

Many guided walks to suit all ages and interests in the Echo Walking Festival

- Kylie Watkins Katch Katikati

Whether you are a leisurely walker or a gym bunny, there is something for everyone to come along and enjoy. Choose from a flat, well-tracked DoC walk up along to the Tuahu Kauri Loop, or for the photography enthusiasts winding around the Uretara capturing photos on the Bird Walk Photography Walk, or hearing about the rich history of our beautiful coastline with the Lindermann Loop Track or Waihi Beach North End Mining Past. We try to cater not only to your physical wellbeing, but also the emotional and mental connections to our forebears.

We are honoured to have some of the most experienced guides helping us lead these walks. Their knowledge

is great, they know the paths and some spend a lot of time up on these tracks.

This year we are grateful to have a few new walks on our programme:

Sentinel Rock Track, Pinnacles Walk, Owharoa Falls Heritage Bike and Train Ride, Coromandel Coastal Walkway and Uplands Rd to Poupou Stream and Papakura Bay Shipwreck to name a few. We recommend jumping online to register your spot today, as some of the walks on offer are for limited numbers only and have only a couple of spots left.

For future planning, we do track and watch which walks are popular and become fully booked such as Mayor Island and Tuahu Track East to West so, even though they are fully booked, we encourage you to register on the waitlist so we can contact you for next year’s walk and book you in if you missed out. Along with planning, we also like to include festival walks during a week of the school holidays so you can make it a family occasion.

We really do appreciate your support of the festival. We always have our coastal community in mind and, as a committee of eight, we encourage you all to come along and participate. We simply want to share our beautiful coastal backyard with you.

With Echo Walking Festival due to kick off this weekend, festival organisers encourage you to register for a walk sooner rather then later to avoid missing out. This is your last chance to be able to receive all the information needed before the day.
