Mayor backs Pink Ribbon donations

Collectors will be out in force for appeal

-

Western Bay of Plenty Mayor James Denyer is encouraging locals to donate to the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal. Tomorrow and Saturday thousands of volunteers will be hitting the streets all over New Zealand to raise vital funds for breast cancer research, education and patient support.

“I support the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal because raising awareness promotes early detection and better survival rates from breast cancer,” says James.

“We all have mothers, wives, daughters, aunts and other wha¯nau who have been or could be affected by this disease and we owe it to them to support them as best we can.”

Breast Cancer Foundation NZ’s chief executive Ah-Leen Rayner says: “We’re asking everyone in the Bay of Plenty to show some love for Kiwis affected by breast cancer by donating to our Pink Ribbon Street Appeal, and we’re so grateful to have Mayor Denyer join our call.

“As a charity that doesn’t receive any government funding, it’s only thanks to the generosity of New Zealanders that we can carry out our lifesaving work. Your donations will bring us closer to our vision of zero deaths from breast cancer.”

Every year, around 190 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the Bay of Plenty region. All of the money raised from the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal goes towards Breast Cancer Foundation NZ’s work to advance breast cancer research, educate Kiwis about the importance of early detection, and support patients through their treatment and recovery.

Donations can be made to the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal through volunteer collectors who will be out in force shaking pink buckets across the region, or online at bcf.org.nz/ streetappeal23.

BCFNZ is a not-for-profit, nongovernment funded organisation that depends on donations and fundraising for its work in breast cancer education and awareness, medical research and training grants, advocacy, and supporting Kiwis with breast cancer.
