- By Cameron Scott

Good quality drinking water keeps your body functioning and feeling healthy.

Without it, all living things could not exist. It comprises about 60 per cent of your body weight, and not only keeps your body temperature under control, but protects body organs and tissues, dissolves nutrients and minerals and lubricates joints, among other essential functions. A healthy water supply also has numerous benefits for animals including livestock, and of course is essential for pasture growth and growing farm and horticultural crops. And that brings us to Katikati’s newest business, Katikati Water Technology, which is totally focused on healthy water supply and can make a difference wherever water is delivered and used.

The new venture, which opened two weeks ago, is the brainchild of Paeroa Farm Services owner Warick Buchanan, backed by PFS managers Gina Hayes, Graeme Evans and Gordy Jackson and Katikati operations manager Jeremy Keeffe.

Jeremy is the first point of contact with customers, working out of a small store in Sheffield St. While the store might be small, Katikati Water Technology is huge in knowledge and expertise, covering everything from drilling deep bores and wells, installing complete farm and orchard irrigation and reticulation systems and setting up water sources, says Warick. Now carrying a range of water pumps in store. The company also works with Davey Water Products to remove excess minerals (for example iron), from farm and lifestyle block water, for the benefit of both humans and animals.

“Water is our complete focus and we take care of anything to do with water – even swimming and spa pool repairs and supply of water treatment chemicals. We are very experienced in installing efficient water filtration systems for domestic, farm or horticultural use,” says Warick.

The company is also well versed in the application of important new drinking water standards introduced in 2022 by Taumata Arowai, New Zealand’s water services regulator.

“In setting up the business we saw our knowledge and expertise as a great assets and I believe there is a huge need in Katikati for this venture,” says Warick. “Many of our PFS clients are in the area, so it made sense. While we have taken over an existing business in Katikati, but we are treating it as a completely new startup.” Highly aware of the importance of good communication and community involvement, Warick says Katikati Water Technology set up their local base with the help of local businesses. The company recently distributed thousands of flyers to publicise the new venture and is running a promotion till the end of April where Katikati Primary

School receives 5 per cent of sales when customers mention the flyer.

Warick has a long background in the farm services industry, having been involved with PFS for 39 years and its owner for 19 years. Graeme Evans has worked for the business for 18 years, while Gina and Gordy have put in one to six years. Katikati Water Technology will serve a wide customer base throughout the Waikato and Bay of Plenty areas.

Says Warick: “Our aim is to improve water supplies and provide healthy water for everyone. Our next big move will be to hire more staff locally to ensure we provide the best possible service.”
