SAILING O mokoroa Boating Club
Sunday dawned relatively fine with a hint of a breeze. It was good to welcome back Richard Miller and Invincible from the mid East and he had Alice on Invincible for the event.
Jo’s report:
Four yachts started the event from Panepane Wharf, at 11am, the tide was ebbing and there was a light South East breeze. General advice re shipping in the entry have cargo movements at 11.30 and 12pm. The starters were Invincible, Konini, Caribbean and Diversion.
The tide controlled the exit as the wind did not. Diversion almost completed a 360’ turn on the way to B buoy. Once past B the breeze gave the keelers a beam reach to the island.
Diversion after her whoopsie soon caught up with the other yachts and the run home was on. However, in the harbour entry the wind dropped and the yachts were masked by the Mount. Again the tide dominated.
At the finish Diversion was first at 14.47.52, Caribbean 2nd at 15.01.42, Invincible 3rd at 15.26.49 and Konini 4th at 15.39.
