Fairview Golf 18 hole women

Another busy week for our players.

April 15 was the first of four rounds of matchplay pennants hosted by Mount Maunganui Golf Club.

Our silver team were placed third and bronze team placed sixth. Thank you to players Kay Buckeridge, Joan Irwin, Cheryl Hobin, Chris Johnston, Sheila Logan and Isabell Johnson and to their caddies. Special thanks to the substitute players who stepped up at the last minute even with borrowed clubs. April 16 was a net competitio­n won by Cathy Munro with 69. Runner up was Jill Austin on 70 and third was Sheila Logan with

Cathy Munro had the only two. From these results our team of Terri Heyes, Cathy Munro, Chris Johnston and Sheila Logan was selected to represent Fairview at the BOP women’s teams final in Taupo on April 29.

Fairview Golf vet ladies

April 15 we played a stableford round off the Back 9. Our results showed up the fact that the greens were rather fluffy out there after our coring. Winner on the day was Lois Fahey finishing with 16 stableford­s, followed by Gayle Nairn and Glenis Hilt both with 14, Karen Crosby and Kay Mitchell both with 18 and Sharon Willetts, Jill Chambers, Carol Fippard and Maggie Alexandre all with 12. Hidden hole was won by Kay Mitchell.

Fairview Golf nine hole ladies

We also played the back nine on April 18 with 24 of us playing the third round of our net / putting winter competitio­n. Carol Fleet led the field in division 1 finishing with 36 net, closely followed by Glenis Hilt 38, Julie Stewart, Wendy Cocks, Marilyn Payne and Lois Fahey all with 39. Hidden hole for division 1 was shared by Wendy Cocks and Delwynne Rientjes. Congratula­tions to Glenis Hilt for her chip in on 14. Best putter was Wendy Cocks 15 putts. Our division two winner was Brenda Carr with 36 net, followed by Louise Robb 37, Ros Robson 41 and Pene Rose 42. Division 2 hidden hole was shared by Ros Robson and Evelyn McCord. Best putter was Louise Robb 17 putts.

Waihi Golf Club

Monday vets: The competitio­n this week was stableford with teams of four, with the best three scores per hole counting. The winning team with 118 points was Edna Connolly, Karen Lee, Neil Walker, and Kerry Lewis. Two teams were tied for second with 113 points, Brian Baynes, Willie Lynch, Bev Ireland and Kaylene Croker, and the threeperso­n team of Denise Morgan, Peter Hewitt, Raewyn Wright. Andrew McLennan and Ross Fitness both scored 2’s on the 8th hole.

On the same day the Vets pennants teams played at Thames. Scoring was difficult with lightning-fast greens, and some heavy rain showers, The Quartz team has managed to stay on top of the table, with Te Aroha some 10 shots behind. With the final round to be played at Paeroa on the 29th, the Quartz players will be determined to take the Zone 3 title. The Ingots and the Nuggets are equal 6th at this stage and not that far back and could still be in contention. Tuesday nine hole section: The haggle this week was stableford, and with the winning score of a very good 22 points was Jill Mason. In second place was John Vautier with 19, while Mandy Piper and Michelle Bonnici both had 18 points. All on 17 were Chris Mercer, Alison Williams, and Julia Nicolson. Wednesday ladies: Rosalind Giffney was to the fore again this week in the nett haggle coming in with a nett 72. Tied in second place with nett 75’s were Jan Robinson, Denise McConnon, and Dot Ramsey. The Hidden Holes were shared with Dot Ramsey and Denise McConnon with 7 points each. The “Dreamers Player of the Week” was Rosalind Giffney for her 68 nett.

Thursday men: Scoring in the morning Haggle proved fairly tough, but in Div.1, Tim Parish and Des Crene both had 35 points. With Norm Sanderson and Alex Standfield next with 34, and Jim Powell 33 then Allen Smith with 30. Jim Powell had the only two. In Div. 2, Jim Evans and Mathew Delahunty had 37 points, with Pete Rowe next on 35, and Ray Fisher 34. All on 33 were Willie Lynch, Michael Bonnici, Harry Shepherd, and Mark Mora.

The Afternoon Haggle had better results with Mark Tomsett topping the field with 40 points. Next was Dave Campbell with 38, then Murray Butterwort­h, Mike Rose, and Murray Fraser all on 37. On 36 points were Eddie Evans, Paul Morgan, and Graeme Culton, while Bill Young had 35 points. Twos were scored by John Taylor, Mark Tomsett, and Scott Spicer.
