Flowers to grow in summer
Just like the sun
The tallest, the biggest and brightest summer flowers of all, sunflowers look like the sun and they need the sun too.
‘Ginormous FlowerZilla’ is the monster among sunflowers. ‘Yellow Empress’ is also very tall, with super sized flowers as big as dinner plates. ‘Moonwalker’ is soft lemon yellow. ‘Dwarf Sensation’ has huge bright yellow flowers on a shorter plant that's great for pots. Cute ‘Little Ted’ has fluffy pompom flowers. Grow this fuzzy little guy in the garden or a pot.
Bright as lollipops
Zinnias dazzle all through summer and autumn in bright eye catching colours - scarlet, yellow, orange and pink. They’re great for picking.
Fairy favourites
Cosmos are pretty in different shades of pink, white and purple. Easy to grow and lovely to pick.
Cool blues
Sprinkle a packet of magical ‘Carpet of Blue’ wildflowers to get lots of different shades of blue. Clear a patch of soil, sprinkle the seed and rake in and water in gently. Or sow them around your sunflowers; they’ll make your yellow flowers look even more bright and beautiful!
Summer flowers from seed
Sunflowers, zinnias and cosmos need a warm sunny spot. Sow seeds direct where they are to grow or in biodegradable seedling pots that can be planted pot-and-all without disturbing the roots.
Water gently to keep them moist at all times.
