HOW TO PROPAGATE Method 1: Division

-

Using a garden fork, carefully loosen up the soil around your chosen lily. at this point, it will usually come out of the ground fairly easily, as rengarenga have shallow rooting systems.

Tease the roots apart gently – again you will find this happens fairly easily and now you have a small pile of new plants from the one parent. if any sections prove to be stubborn about separating, cut them with a knife.

Transfer your plants to their designated spot or pot them up for planting at a later date. Give them each a good drink and then you can pretty much walk away. within a year, your plants will have doubled in size (or more if they are positioned in fertile growing conditions).

Method 2: From seed

When the seed heads of the plants are good and dry, simply cut the stalks off with a pair of snips and insert upside down into a bread bag. Give the dry material a good rub and shake and the seed will collect in the bottom.

Sow rengarenga seed directly into potting mix, water and leave in a sheltered spot.

The seeds germinate quickly and once they are about 3–4cm tall, transfer them to larger pots or trays.
