Specimen trees

Look to plant deciduous specimen trees now. Think maples, flowering cherries, magnolias, oaks and ash trees. Garden shops have the best selection at this time of year. Choose trees that will suit your location – for example, choose smaller-growing flowering cherry tree types for a townhouse garden, not a large variety you would see in a botanic garden. If in doubt, take a photo of the area in which you wish to plant the tree and speak to an expert at the garden centre about what options would be best. Trees can last a lifetime, so choosing wisely is always a good investment.
