BIRD PHOTO COMPETITION RESULTS
You made it very difficult for the judges this year! Wow. It didn’t help that we had to narrow the finalists down from more entries than we have ever received in the competition’s six-year history.
Judging took place in our Christchurch office, where the chatter was high. Some were drawn to colour, others to composition, and some to pure ‘cuteness’. After much discussion, however, the following were declared our 2021 winners.
We are very pleased to announce Samantha Edlin-burke of Waikato is our supreme winner. For her efforts, she has won a Canon prize pack worth $899, featuring the EOS M200 inter-changeable lens camera and EF-M 15-45 IS STM lens.
The runner-up prize was hotly contested. It was down to the wire but, in the end, Christchurch resident David Bowie won with his radiant tūī. The bird itself is perfectly imperfect, and made for a stunning cover image to boot. David has won a Topflite Native Bird Nurturer Pack, plus a Nectar Nutra Feeder, valued at over $100.
Congratulations also go to Anya Foley, who, at age 10, captured her encounter with a robin so beautifully. The Omakere School student was on Kāpiti Island at the time, walking with family and friends.

The cute photo is the winner of our kids category, which was open to those 12 and under, and will see Anya receive a $100-plus prize of a Topflite Wild Bird Energy Pack and a year’s membership to the Forest and Bird Kiwi Conservation Club.
