Kiwi Gardener

LESSON LEARNT

-

I loved Diana Noonan’s ‘Living off the Land’ article in the August edition, about talking to plants, and admit I have done it gently for years – not always successfully.

What convinced me was that, many years ago, my mother had a lemon tree, which had been growing on the back lawn for many years with very little fruit. In a fit of pique my mother told it if it didn’t start growing some decent lemons she’d chop it down. Well, from then on, that tree grew the most amazing lemons and never sulked again.

People can take that as they will, but perhaps sometimes a scolding does just as well as a lovely chat.

Keep up the good growing.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write, and share the lemon tree tale! I’m sure plants know more than most give them credit for! So pleased you are enjoying Kiwi Gardener – I certainly enjoy writing for it! – Diana Noonan
