Described as one of New Zealand’s friendlies­t garden festivals, this 10-day adventure sees visitors able to truly appreciate all that Taranaki can grow. With gardens throughout the region, you can easily plan your trip on the website, where you’ll see the full array of new and returning gardens, both public and private.

THE GREAT GARDEN TOUR

From small but perfectly formed town gardens to large park-like gardens, 12 open their gates in the Hamilton

East, Hillcrest and Tamahere area. Featuring vegetables, herbs and perennials grown, propagated or planted on by schoolchil­dren, a plant sale will run 9.30am–1pm at Hillcrest Normal School Hall (218 Cambridge Road). Both events are fundraisin­g for Hillcrest Normal Primary School in Hamilton.

9.30am–3.30pm.
