Vegetables

Ground space may be scarce in the vegetable garden. Sow rows of carrots, radish and parsnip. Put in another punnet or two of summer lettuce – ‘Little Gem’ is a wonderful crisp dwarf hybrid, with a cos-like texture. Mound up the earth around potatoes.

Plant out slips/cuttings of kūmara. Get your yams in the ground, if you haven’t already – they take a good six months to mature. Tomatoes, cucumber, sweet corn, eggplants, capsicum and chillies can all be planted once frosts have passed.
