VEGETABLES
• Harvest garlic this month. Carefully ease the plants out of the ground, brush off excess soil and leave sitting in the sun to cure the skins for a week or more before storing.
• Pick beans on a regular basis to encourage the plant to keep cropping.
• Tie tomato stems to stakes as the plants get taller.
• Keep planting salad leaves and greens, except for hearting lettuces, which will never thrive in the hottest months.
• Add more basil. It loves the hot months and propagates easily from stem cuttings rooted in water. (The cuttings will be ready to plant out in a month.)
