NO-DIG SPUDS

This advice is courtesy of an old newspaper article titled ‘Gardening Without Digging’, found in Isla’s scrapbook.
‘This ‘No Dig’ method has been tried and proven for years and is ideal for growing potatoes. Each seed potato is spaced about a foot apart on top of the unturned soil and a small heap of good compost is placed over each potato with a ring of wood ash sprinkled around that and a foot high pile of hay or straw is placed over the lot. Water the whole area as required, making sure the area is just lightly moist and if you live on the coast, give it a sprinkle of seawater over the growing period. Every year I harvest lots of large, tasty potatoes using this ‘No Dig’ method.’
