Breaking the Norm / Fitness with Kate Ivey

-

So often, people leave their health and fitness to the warmer months, when actually right now is the best time to get success. Kate Ivey explains.

Short days, frosty mornings, warm comfort food and the winter blues are not always conducive to being successful with your health and fitness. But it doesn’t have to be this way. During winter you can battle away, unnoticed, ready to hit spring and summer feeling fit, strong and confident – instead of on the back foot.

One of the main barriers is the cold (and the dark!), but you don’t even have to leave your house to exercise! Do an at-home workout, and even start by the fire or heater if needs be! You can also rug up warm, or make the most of the nor’west or comparatively warmer days we sometimes get at this time of year to get outside for a walk, run or cycle.

There are plenty of food options that will warm you up and keep you nourished too. Meat and roast veges, soups, healthy pasta dishes and many hearty meal options will hit the spot but still keep you on track to feeling and looking your best.

Exercising during winter also helps to prevent the winter blues, and can help you get through this colder time of year by giving you something to really focus on. The exercise endorphins, the sense of achievement and the added energy levels from healthy eating will make this winter one to remember.

So instead of letting the old habits creep in and resigning to the cycle of letting your health and fitness go in the winter – use it as your secret weapon to put that spring in your step, before the thaw.

You can literally transform your life, while everyone else is rugged up on the couch.
