Editor’s Note
I am a bit bewildered that it’s the middle of the year already! 2019 where have you gone? While at times the summer break feels like it was just last week, it has been an incredibly busy six months for us. Our most recent task has been collating the results of our reader survey – a huge thank you to those of you who took time out to tell us what you think.
I felt heartened that some of the changes you want are in-line with our own proposed tweaks and that the features you love are the ones we also hold dear! With your suggestions in mind, this issue sees the launch of two new partnerships: a regular sporting tale from the team at WeAreCanterbury (page 24) and an artist profile from art fanatic Julia Atkinson-Dunn (page 94). I hope you enjoy them!
We have also been busy putting together our sister publication Canterbury Bride.
For those with a wedding on the horizon it is well worth a read, and just because we appreciate all the support you give us, if you purchase a copy online at canterburybride.co.nz and enter the code latitude, you will save on the cover price. Long before the tragic events of 15 March [the mosque shootings], we made the decision to celebrate Christchurch as our regional travel destination (page 127). Filled with mouthwatering eateries, gorgeous shops, creative spaces and many many hidden delights, I can’t encourage you enough to take some time out to explore it. A bit of a Christchurch special, this issue also looks ahead to give you a sneak peek into the planned Riverside Market (page 134) and New Zealand’s first community-focused, equity crowdfunded commercial property development, Collett’s Corner in Lyttelton (page 141).
My favourite story this issue however, is that of the Foote Family (who kindly grace our cover) and their 40-year celebration of private ownership of the Mt Dobson Ski Area (page 18). It is a story of love, passion and hard work, and one that I know you will all enjoy. A huge thank you to Peter and his family for allowing us to tell it.
I’m off to pack my bags, as we are heading to Bali on holiday this month. Enjoy snuggling up with this issue while I plan the next from the beach!
With love,
