The Dame Malvina Major Foundation (DMMF) Christchurch committee and Ashburton Youth Institute present a concert at The Ashburton
Event Centre on Saturday 24 August at 7.30 pm, showcasing artists
From Grassroots to Excellence. Following on from the previous highly successful collaboration in July 2013, the first half of the concert will feature local youth and the second half Canterbury DMMF artists pursuing careers in the performance arts.
Soprano Anna Hoetjes (nee Argyle), born in Ashburton, will be joined by tenor Andrew Grenon, resident artist with New Zealand Opera, accompanied by Cheuky Chan who is home briefly from the Lyric
Opera Studio Weimar. Flautist Isabella Gregory, violinist Justin Hodges, accompanied by Anna Maksymova and pupils from Southern Ballet will also feature. Filmed footage will be shown of Tasman Davids dancing at the Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg, Russia following his recent success in being nominated for a Golden Mask Award.
