Bite-size pieces celebrating local happenings

Having a child made Jo-Anne Day of McGinns Madefresh want to be healthier: ‘I started making skincare seven years ago while breastfeeding my baby boy,’ she explains. ‘I didn’t want to expose him to unnecessary personal care chemicals. When my sister gave me a natural skincare book, I started experimenting with cleansers and moisturisers and found my skin had never looked healthier.

‘My skincare philosophy grew to include fresh and locallysourced ingredients. I now deliberately keep batches small so people know they are purchasing something fresh and carefully prepared. New Zealand has many wonderful local raw ingredients, many of which I use including beeswax, olive oil, honey, lavender and kanuka.’

From baby balm to beard oil, to soothing salve day cream, solid shampoo and conditioner and the addictive Skin Restoring Facial Serum, McGinns Madefresh now has something for every member of the family, all crafted with a focus on the environment. ‘It’s important to conserve resources, so refilling containers in 100% reusable packaging is an area I will continue to explore.’
