Guinness Down Under

- By Rod Smith

The Irish connections of Canterbury pioneer Michael John Burke, and the story of how a magician publicly shredded the top hat belonging to Ashburton magistrate Frank Guinness are explored in Guinness Down Under. Michael Burke and Frank Guinness were grandsons of Arthur Guinness, founder of the famous Dublin brewery. The book recounts their lives in Canterbury, along with the history of the Guinness brewing business and expansion into Australia and New Zealand. For lovers of the dark ale and those with an interest in history, it is one for the Christmas stocking.
